What is taught at each age is ordered by how attention, working memory and frustration tolerance actually develop — not by chess difficulty. This is why endgames arrive early and openings arrive late.

The reason 64Moves teaches chess differently is not a philosophy. It is a professional background — and it changes what happens in the thirty seconds after a child gets something wrong.

What “psychology-led” concretely changes
Four differences you would notice in a single class
Not a philosophy. Four specific things a visitor could observe from the back of the room.
What happens after a mistake
A coach does not correct immediately. The child is asked what they were expecting, and the gap between that and what happened is the lesson. Correction closes a conversation that has not started yet.
Session shape by age
Younger batches run in three shorter blocks with a change of activity between each, because attention at six is a rhythm problem rather than a discipline problem.
How losing is handled
A fixed, teachable routine for the three moves after an error — taught as explicitly as any opening, and revisited every term.
Our principles
Five lines we hold ourselves to
- 01Batches are capped at six.A cap, not an average. A seventh chair is not added because somebody asked nicely.
- 02The curriculum is public.Before you pay, not after. If we cannot publish it, we do not have one.
- 03Coaches are verifiable.FIDE ID and a public profile link on every coach card.
- 04Feedback is written and monthly.Four columns, naming specific positions from specific games.
- 05We talk about losing.Most academies talk about winning. The other half of the game is where the learning is.
What we refuse to do
- 01No rating guarantees.A rating is arithmetic over years. Anyone promising a number is inventing it.
- 02No forced tournaments.Competition is offered and prepared for. It is never a requirement.
- 03No batch above six.Including when a batch is full and a parent is disappointed.
- 04No claims about IQ or school marks.The evidence is mixed and the claim is unnecessary.
- 05No invented testimonials or results.Which is why several blocks on this website are visibly empty.
The name
64Moves — as in the 64 squares
A chessboard has sixty-four squares. The name is about the board rather than about a number of moves, and it is a reminder that everything in this game happens inside a fixed, knowable space. What varies is the thinking.
Queensight Academy is the registered entity that operates 64Moves, and it is the name you will see on signage, invoices and legal documents. 64Moves is the name of the academy. Both are us — we would rather explain that here than have you find it on a receipt and wonder.
The tagline, Chess is a need., is not a claim that every child must become a champion. It is a claim that every child deserves to become a better thinker, and that chess is an unusually good place to practise that.
